There is a collection of small items atop a security boulder in the NIH’s perimeter. The boulder rests at a pedestrian entrance, blocking the entrance of hostile vehicles. I call the collection a shrine, perhaps a shrine to those lost to Covid, but I don’t know the originator’s purpose. It has been present during most of Covid. It changes in occasional bursts, with items being removed and new ones appearing. In the meantime, the objects are periodically rearranged. In this photo, the strings of beads appeared just before Mardi Gras.
